Placement Testing

To assist in effective advising, a pre-enrollment assessment called ACCUPLACER is used.

The ACCUPLACER is a placement test that is designed to help determine which class placements are most appropriate for a student, based on aptitude in college-level reading, writing, and mathematics. It is internet-based and proctored by an ACCUPLACER Administrator.

Many credit courses require students to have a certain ACCUPLACER or ACT score to enroll. Sometimes these requirements are met through completion of another preparatory course.

The Parameter sheet shows the score rangers for each subject area and the course placements. View the Parameter sheet.

View The Parameter sheet here!

Who IS REQUIRED to complete the ACCUPLACER?

  • Students enrolling in English, reading or mathematics courses
  • Students enrolling in courses with English, reading or math prerequisites
  • Students are exempt from taking parts or all of the ACCUPLACER if they provide WNCC with an official copy of the ACT or SAT I scores, or an official high school transcript listing the scores of their ACT (American College Test). An official transcript from another college is also accepted.

Prior to Testing

For anyone planning to take the ACCUPLACER Placement Test, it is required to complete the Sample Test on the ACCUPLACER App and provide printed proof of completion at the time of testing. There are five sections; Reading Comprehension, Sentence Skills, Elementary Algebra, Arithmetic and College Math. All three tests must be completed in the Math section. Do not be concerned about the upper level math scores.

Taking all three is meant to give a better understanding of the type of questions you may encounter. Using the link below, you will establish an account log in and password (this is a free set-up). At the end of each section, a result page is provided. Please print this page and bring it with you when you test. If you are testing in all three subjects, you will have five result pages.

Please contact us at 308.635.6050 with any questions or concerns.

Preparation Steps

  1. Log into ACCUPLACER App.
  2. Complete all five sample tests, and present results that are provided at the end of each session (there is a "learn as you go" piece that might be helpful to review prior to taking the sample test).
  3. Schedule an appointment through Student Life and Engagement by calling 308.635.6050.
  4. Present all result pages (either a printed copy or online display) and your student ID or photo ID in room G150 to take your placement test.

Retest Information

The exam can only be retaken once in a 30 day period.  The first time is free for students planning on attending WNCC. There is a $15 retest fee. The retest can be taken as early as the next day. The same day retest is not allowed according to the College Board. It is in the best interest of the student to wait at least one week before attempting to retest, giving ample time to review the study materials. The retest fee must be paid at the Business Office prior to retesting.

Remote Testing

WNCC now offers remote testing through ProctorU! This service allows students who are unable to come to campus to test from anywhere, at any time. Please e-mail to get the process started! Be sure to include “Remote Test Voucher” in the subject line of your e-mail. The advising office will then assist you in getting your test voucher created!
