Program Overview

The Western Nebraska Community College Music Program, at our Scottsbluff Campus, offers an Associate of Arts in Music Education and an Associate of Arts in Vocal Performance, plus numerous music classes for the general college student, including music fundamentals, music appreciation, basic and advanced music theory, sight singing and ear training, and all subject areas and levels of applied lessons, plus Elementary Music methods and Humanities courses in music.

The student musician is given the opportunity to study privately and is encouraged to participate in the various performing ensembles, including:

  • Collegiate Chorale - the premier concert choir of WNCC; past performances include several at New York's famed Carnegie Hall and the 2007 Nebraska Governor's Inaugural Ball; no audition is necessary and every singer is welcome
  • Varsity Vocalise - a highly select touring ensemble; membership is by audition and enrollment in Collegiate Chorale
  • Just Bluffin' and Quintessence - highly select men's and women's ensembles, respectively; membership is by audition and enrollment in Collegiate Chorale

Career Opportunities The U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that in 2012, the median pay for Musicians and Singers was $23.50 per hour, while for high school music teachers it was $55,050 per year.
