TRIO is a set of federally-funded college opportunity programs that motivate and support students in their pursuit of a college degree. TRIO programs provide academic tutoring, personal advising, mentoring, financial guidance, and other supports necessary for educational access and retention.

The college experience can be exciting and challegening and TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is designed to provide students with the critical academic support necessary for a successful college experience. TRIO SSS is funded by the U.S. Department of Education at $355,246.

TRIO SSS Mission Statement

Increase academic success, persistence, graduation and/or transfer to pursue advanced degrees and to increase cultural enrichment.

Who can join TRIO SSS?

  • First generation college students (neither parent has a four-year college degree)
  • Students who meet the income guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Education
  • Students who have a diagnosed physical and/or learning disability
  • Students who have an academic need for serivces
  • Legal residents of the United States

Free services available to students include:

  • Math & Science tutoring - Visit Math & Science Tutor to see a complete schedule.
  • Supplemental Instruction, peer led study groups - Visit Supplemental Instruction to learn more, and to see a schedule.
  • Workshops for student success, like financial literacy
  • Success coaching
  • Academic & Transfer advising
  • Supplemental Grant Aid
  • Computer room with free printing
  • Campus visits to 4-year colleges
  • Leadership, cultural, & social events
  • Scholarship assistance
  • SPiN, Single Parent Network
  • Summer academy

TRIO Veterans Upward Bound provides education assistance to qualified veterans to improve their educational skills before they attend college. Veterans Upward Bound

WNCC students must fill out an application to see if they qualify for services. Please print, sign, and bring the application to the TRIO offices, or mail to:
