Veterinary/Comparative Medicine (Pre)

Learn the healthcare fundamentals of treating and caring for animals.

In WNCC’s Pre-Veterinary Medicine program, located at the Scottsbluff campus, you’ll learn the basics behind the terminology and concepts of veterinary medicine and explore the new trends and current advances being made in the field. These courses are designed to help you develop the skills needed to succeed in courses in order to pursue a degree in Veterinary Medicine.

When you successfully complete the Pre-Veterinary Medicine program, you will have taken the required courses needed to transfer to a college of veterinary medicine.

About the Program

Program Objectives

Provide students with the necessary information and course credits to transfer directly to a school providing upper-division pre-veterinary and/or comparative medicine studies at a four-year college or university and ultimately acceptance into a graduate-level program in a chosen field.
Provide students with coursework basic to a variety of curricula. Students will be able easily to change their educational goals to other areas, especially in the life sciences, with little or no lost time or earned credits that will not apply in other areas.

WNCC’s Pre-Veterinary/Comparative Medicine program gives you the necessary fundamentals to enable you to continue your education at a four-year college or university in Pre-Veterinary Science and eventually pursue a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.

Beyond veterinary school, you may choose to work as a general practitioner with animals, or you may choose to specialize in one of hundreds of veterinary specialties, including small animals, large animals, exotic animals, internal medicine, cardiovascular health, or oncology, to name a few. Working with animals is not always easy, as they don’t always do what you want them to do so they can get the help they need. It can also require house calls, especially with large animals. Most of your time is spent on your feet, with a lot of bending, lifting, and listening to your patients and their owners. Seeing animals recover under your care makes for a rewarding and diverse career that will keep you motivated throughout the years.
