Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) was recently selected to receive a $10,000 Wellness Grant to coach the community about living healthy lifestyles. Today at 5:30 p.m., Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) will present a check to the College at the Monument Mall in Scottsbluff. The presentation is during BCBSNE's Livewell Tour stop at the mall, which runs from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The media and public are invited to attend.
WNCC will use the grant to fund its Wellness Culture Coaching Training program. The program is dedicated to helping individuals develop and adopt healthier lifestyle practices. The project starts by training 15 individuals who become certified Wellness Culture Coaches. Once certified, the coaches train the community, schools, churches and businesses to spread awareness, knowledge, and importance of creating a wellness culture. WNCC will also develop a curriculum for students as credit hours that include wellness and nutrition courses.
"We are excited about awarding WNCC a wellness grant because this program has great potential to influence and encourage a lot of people to become healthier," said Rob Trebilcock, BCBSNE's director of community engagement.
In all, BCBSNE is awarding $89,200 in wellness grants to eight organizations throughout the greater Nebraska community. The wellness grant program supports organizations that aim for building healthier communities in the state.
