Customized Workforce Training for NTC Underway

WNCC

Western Nebraska Community College and Nebraska Transport Company (NTC) are proud to announce the implementation of the NTC Academy, an innovative collaboration created to strengthen the NTC workforce.  The NTC Academy kicked off this morning with the first training session.  WNCC President Dr. Todd Holcomb was present to officially welcome NTC and their Chief Executive Officer Brent Holliday to the WNCC Business and Community Education Division.

Part of NTC's Core Value System is to "provide an opportunity for each employee to be empowered to function at their highest potential."  It's through this commitment to employees that NTC prioritized training and education as the foundation of empowerment.  NTC utilizes the Academy to develop company and job-specific training courses for employees.

"This has been a big project but we have developed a strong partnership with NTC over the past year," says Lori Stromberg, director of business and individual training at WNCC, "now we're able to create multiple online courses for NTC going forward."  Through the Academy, NTC also has access to curriculum development and WNCC resources and training.

"The landscape of the transportation industry is really changing because of advances in technology.  It's important for NTC to provide resources to improve employees' skills and so we can continue to be an industry leader.  This partnership with WNCC allows us to do that," said Holliday.

"Lori and Ron Johnson, our curriculum developer on this project, have done an outstanding job of responding to NTC's training needs and further providing customized workforce development in our service area.  Academies such as this help us meet the College's mission of assuring learning opportunities for all," said Holcomb.

While NTC is excited about the launch of the Academy, they also are looking ahead to growing and adding more courses.  "We will begin work on the next NTC Academy Course this fall and plan to develop three more courses within the year," says Stromberg.

Nebraska Transport Company has been a family-owned regional carrier for 40 years and has served the contiguous 48 states and parts of Canada since 1987.  NTC operates terminals in Gering, Alliance, North Platte, Grand Island, Lincoln, Omaha, Kansas City, Chicago, Rapid City, Des Moines, and Denver.
