The Criminal Justice Club at Western Nebraska Community College is once again providing Christmas presents to incarcerated mothers detained at the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center and those living at Doves this holiday season. The student organization's goal is to raise approximately 100 children's gifts from faculty, staff, students, and community.
This is the third year WNCC's Criminal Justice Club has coordinated this community project. Last year the club received more than 200 gifts and $645 in cash donations.
Contributors to the Criminal Justice Club's project, "Santa Mom," are recognized as donors in upcoming issues of its news bulletin.
"The Criminal Justice Club helped make a difference in the lives of many mothers and their children last Christmas," said Dr. Hieu Phan, criminal justice instructor. "Any contribution helps to insure that incarcerated mothers and those without homes in our community will have at least one present to give to their sons or daughter this Christmas."
The deadline to donate gifts is Friday, December 6. Donations can be dropped off at the John N. Harms Advanced Technology Center, 2620 College Park, Room C-155 in Scottsbluff. The target ages for gifts are 3 - 14 years of age. The club is also picking up donations from those who cannot drop off. Please call 308.635.6118 to schedule a pick up.
Members of the Criminal Justice Club and volunteers will wrap the donated gifts and deliver them to the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center and Doves for distribution in December.
