Western Nebraska Community College President Dr. Todd Holcomb and the Western Community College Area Board of Governors accepted golf tournament proceeds totaling $16,000 from Nebraska Public Power District Account Manager Terry Rajewich and Wells Fargo representative Verlin Schaefer Wednesday, November 20.
The funding, which is used for scholarships awarded to students enrolled in the state's community colleges, was part of $80,000 raised by the 22nd annual Wells Fargo Nebraska Open golf tournament held in September.
"The commitment of support from NPPD and Wells Fargo through the years has been tremendous," said Holcomb. "Many WNCC students need the support that public donations provide and our students' success is a testament to the generosity of companies like NPPD and Wells Fargo."
Since its start in 1991, the annual tournament that NPPD coordinates has raised more than $1.2 million for students across Nebraska. During that time, the funds donated to scholarships for Western Nebraska Community College students totals $235,185, according to Rajewich. The $16,000 donated this year will benefit WNCC students at the Alliance, Scottsbluff, and Sidney campuses.
The Wells Fargo Nebraska Open is endorsed by the Nebraska Section of the PGA and the Nebraska Golf Association.
