
Western Nebraska Community College invites alumni, former faculty and staff and friends of the College to come celebrate with current students, faculty and staff at Celebrate WNCC 2013 events between October 14 and October 19. WNCC defines an alumnus as any person who has taken a class from WNCC or its predecessors including Scottsbluff Junior College, Nebraska Western College, Alliance School of Practical Nursing, and Western Nebraska Technical College. There is something for everyone happening on all three WNCC campuses throughout the week. Community Bingo is sponsored by all three campuses: at the Alliance Senior Center on Thursday, October 17 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.; at the John N. Harms Advanced Technology Center in Scottsbluff on Thursday, October 17 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.; and at the Sidney Campus on Friday, October 18, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m.
An Art Gallery Opening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and an auction of cougar-inspired art created by local artists, as well as WNCC student organization-decorated cougar cutouts, takes place on Thursday, October 17 at the John N. Harms Advanced Technology Center in Scottsbluff with proceeds going to WNCC Alumni Relations. The live auction begins at 6:30 p.m.
On Friday, October 18, prior to the WNCC Cougar Volleyball game vs. NJC in Scottsbluff, Western Nebraska Community College hosts an alumni reception from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Alumni updating their contact information at the reception, or prior to it, are entered to win prizes, including the grand prize of a $1,000 Reichert Jewelers gift certificate donated by Fred Reichert. The grand prize drawing, the presentation of a Meritorious Service Award to honor long-time College supporters, and the homecoming court presentation also occurs Friday evening in Cougar Palace prior to the volleyball game.
A one-act play, "Lone Star," is presented by the WNCC Theatre Department in the WNCC Theater on Friday, October 18 at 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, October 19 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, October 19 from 7:00 a.m. to noon, the WNCC Voc Air Fly-In Club and Aviation Maintenance Technology program hosts its annual Fly-In Breakfast at the Sidney Municipal Airport. Also on October 19, cheer on the region's local runners at the WNCC Foundation Fall Frolic 5K, 10K and Kids' Fun Run on the Scottsbluff Campus, sponsored by Valley Bank & Trust Co. and Western States Bank. Register at wnccfoundation.org. The 5K and 10K begins at 8:00 a.m. with day-of-race registration beginning at 6:30 a.m. Kids' Races begin at 9:15 a.m. Other events include a pancake feed by Kiwanis from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., a bounce house by Playhouse Skate and Fun Center, a fossil display by Dr. Lorin King, a 10:00 a.m. Diaper Dash, and a costume contest.
The WNCC Vocal Music Program presents Varsity Vocal Showcase Friday, October 18 and Saturday, October 19 at the Gering Civic Center. Cash bar and socializing begins at 6:00 p.m. The dinner and show begin at 6:30 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance at the WNCC Business Office, or call 308.635.6020.
