The Military and Veterans Affairs office at Western Nebraska Community College will host its first annual Female Veterans Conference entitled “Women of the Military” on Saturday, June 7 at the Sidney Campus from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Collaborators in the event include the VA Medical Centers of Black Hills, Cheyenne, and Omaha. Chris Wolf, Military and Veterans Affairs Director at WNCC, encourages all female veterans to attend and learn more about health services offered by the VA Health System.
Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. when attendees can meet and greet over coffee, muffins, and fruit. Chris Wolf will provide a welcome at 10:00 with an introduction to women’s health topics. “The VA has really expanded its services for females,” says Wolf, “and I am very eager to spread this information.” Breakout sessions follow at 11:00 p.m. with the topics of Honor Flights and Stress Reduction. Carol Sinner, a Scottsbluff resident, registered nurse, and former guardian for the 11th Honor Flight out of Northern Colorado, will deliver a keynote speech during lunch entitled “Women in Service.” Breakout sessions follow with a wrap-up at 1:45 p.m. where attendees can make suggestions for next year’s event.
While the conference informs and educates female veterans of important health services available to them, the organizers plan to emphasize fun, comradeship, and building friendly connections. Chris Wolf encourages women to bring personal and career photos to “build your military history” in a personal scrapbook.
Attendees are encouraged to register in advance by contacting Linda Roelle, Workforce Development Specialist at the WNCC Sidney Campus, at 308.254.7407.
