Puzzles for Veterans

WNCC

Western Nebraska Community College Science Instructor Lorin King visited the Western Nebraska Veterans Home on December 17 with a unique delivery for the holidays. He brought boxes filled with puzzles and games, gifts purchased with donations he received for a project he began called Puzzles for Veterans.

He attributes the idea for the project to his six-year-old son Max and seven-year-old son Logan. He and his wife Gayl had taken their sons to the Western Nebraska Veterans Home for trick-or-treating last Halloween. “We saw a number of residents doing large complicated puzzles,” King tells us. “Both of the boys said, ‘Daddy we should get some puzzles for these folks to do!’ It made think that I should do something to collect money to be able to do just that.”

Other WNCC staff and faculty became involved, with contributions from Garry Alkire, Ellen Dillon, and Molly Bonuchi as well as a $100 donation from the Student Veterans Organization. Other contributors include Team Auto Center and Walmart.
