Western Nebraska Community College is pleased to co-sponsor a community play this spring. WNCC students and members of the community are welcome to audition for the Steven C. Hyer play, "Lying in State," a comedy spoof on the 'game' of politics. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script and be held in the WNCC Little Theatre on Wednesday and Thursday, February 25-27 at 6:30 p.m, with callbacks on Friday, February 28 at 6:30 p.m.
"Lying in State" is a fast-paced political farce centering on deceased state senator Ed, who was killed by stray bullets while defending his home from invaders.
"This rip-roaring romp gets off to its zany start at the funeral parlor where we meet Ed's ex-wife Edna, who is fulfilling the final decree of their divorce by seeing Ed buried. Add to the mix Ed's overzealous campaign manager, a boozy brother with big political dreams, an ex-exotic dancer claiming to be Ed's fiancé, the self-serving governor, and the wacky lady from parlor C and you have the makings of an evening full of laughter," describes the play's Director Lisa Betz.
Roles are available for three men playing 40s-60s, a man in his 20s, a woman in her 20s-30s, a woman 40s-50s, and a woman mid 40s-60s or 70s. Anyone interested in auditioning, stage management, or helping on backstage crew can email Betz at betzl@wncc.edu to obtain a perusal copy of the script.
Performance dates are April 25-26 and May 2-4. Please bring a list of any and all scheduling conflicts between March 3 and May 4.
