11th Annual International Festival of the Aegean

Eleven select members of the 2014-15 Western Nebraska Community College Collegiate Chorale will travel to the island of Syros, Greece to perform in the 11th Annual International Festival of the Aegean, June 30 through July 24, 2015.

The repertoire and opportunities for the WNCC vocalists includes four performances of the Greek opera, Medea, featuring international leads, a New York director, and the Pazardshik Symphony Orchestra of Bulgaria. They also present a solo Sunset Concert at St Nicholas Cathedral, a collaborative concert with Nebraska Wesleyan University, Central Community College, and Choruses from Greece, a performance of the Faure Requiem, and a final Grand Choral Gala featuring the Beethoven Choral Fantasy, the Mozart Coronation Mass, and singers from around the globe. 2015 marks the 151st year of the Apollo Theatre. The theme of the Festival is “Changing Lives One Concert at a Time.”

The WNCC Festival participants include Olivia Anderson, Gering; Kelsey Arringoton, Lodgepole; Nic Elwood, Rushville; Kate Engel, Ogallala; Victor Garza, Mitchell; Maggie Hopp, Scottsbluff; Courtney Imel, Mitchell; Alex Marker, Kansas City, MO; Brittli Sell, Scottsbluff; and Connor Zimmer, Bridgeport as well as WNCC Music Program Director Rita.

The Oregon Trail Community Foundation and Western Nebraska Community College Foundation generously funded the total passage of one student, each. The David and Ann Duey Trust, C.W. Yount Foundation, Kelley Bean, Coral and Don Richards, Bob and Elaine Pile, The Foundation for Children and Families, William and Gretchen Peters, and PEO Chapter FC-NE jointly contributed to the passage of one other singer. Other funding for the trip includes donations to the WNCC Foundation in the name of the Vocal Program.
