WNCC Business & Community Education Creates Program for Seniors

WNCC

The Business & Community Education Division at Western Nebraska Community College has recently developed a new program, "Senior Connections," customized for older adults, which offers affordable classes to meet the needs of baby boomers and other mature lifelong learners, encourage new friendships, and provide an alternative gathering place for seniors to socialize.

"Senior Connections" classes are held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the John N. Harms Advanced Technology Center every other Wednesday beginning in January. Topics include winter and distracted driving, healthy eating, CPR, preventing falls, travel and tourism, crafts, technology, and more. The cost varies from $5 to $15 per class.

"We already see a large number of older individuals participating in our community education classes. In order to better meet the needs of this generation, we reviewed and modified our class offerings, adjusted the cost, and created classes that appeal to this more seasoned audience," said Lori Stromberg, Business & Individual Training Director. "Our team has worked extremely hard to create interesting classes from a variety of topics, which allows our adult learners to expand their horizon and learn in an engaging environment."
