Western Nebraska Community College nursing students help raise diabetes awareness by taking part in the Diabetes Health Fair at Regional West Medical Center on Tuesday, January 27 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The health fair, hosted by the Regional West Physicians Clinic and the Diabetes Care Center, is open to the public and takes place in Medical Plaza South room 1202.
WNCC nursing students play a key role in the fair, featuring interactive booths emphasizing the parts of the body most affected by diabetes including the eyes, feet, nerves, heart, and kidneys.
Nursing Program Instructor Ronda Kinsey tells us that her students will present “carefully constructed models from clay and other materials to demonstrate in a hands-on way the effect diabetes has on various parts of the body. The public will learn a great deal to raise awareness in the interactive tour lasting between 30 and 45 minutes.”
WNCC nursing students benefit from the experience as well, learning the skills of teaching and public interaction while performing a community service.
