Western Nebraska Community College expands opportunities in nursing to its Alliance and Sidney campuses with an Advanced Placed program for Associate Degree Registered Nursing (AD-N) students. The program allows current Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to advance place into the second year of the AD-N program as a jump-start to a professional career nursing.
“We, the nursing faculty at WNCC, are excited about this opportunity to increase the accessibility of the Advanced Placed Associate Degree Registered Nursing program to all students in the WNCC service area,” says Nursing Education Director Melaney Thomas MSN, RN. “Students on the Alliance and Sidney campuses will receive theory courses via distance education technology. For clinical experiences, we will utilize local healthcare facilities whenever possible. Students will have the opportunity to interact with nursing faculty and peers throughout this one-year program. We believe this not only further prepares our next generation of nursing students, but also benefits our communities in western Nebraska.”
WNCC President Dr. Todd Holcomb agrees. “It is very important to stay in contact with national, regional, and state trends in nursing education,” Dr. Holcomb says. “We are very excited to see this program expand and complement our LPN and Surgical Technology initiatives.”
Requirements for entry into the program include completion of required general education prerequisites and a current LPN license. Nursing classes begin in the fall of 2015, and students may register now for program prerequisites by contacting admissions at admissions@wncc.edu or calling 308.635.6010.
