WNCC Theatre presents La Llorona: A Love Story

WNCC
Western Nebraska Community College Theatre presents La Llorona: A Love Story by Kathleen Culebro.

The WNCC theatre department is experiencing a renaissance led by new theatre Director and Instructor Robert Thompson, Jr. The revitalized theatre company plans to present plays and musicals that emphasize a commentary on the human experience as it relates to the current state of affairs. By utilizing actors from both WNCC and the community, the College will provide quality theatrical productions that raise social awareness, educate, and entertain.

Thompson's first play, La Llorona: A Love Story is a modern day retelling of the conquest of Mexico, a story of love, tradition, superstition, and cultural misunderstanding. Jeffrey loves his wife so much that he's willing to do anything to make her happy. Irma loves her husband so much, she ignores the warnings of La Llorona, who tries to tell her that the things she's doing to save her family may have dire consequences.

"The play is a moving tragedy attacking the growing concerns of interculturalism as well as income inequality," said Thompson. He urges the audience "not to be a passive observer, but to recognize the issues in the play as relevant to our current state of affairs. And start a dialogue within the community to raise social awareness."

Included in the cast are: Marisa Plummer, Brandelynn Mendoza, Nick McDaniel, Andrew Smith, and Introducing Rachel Karpen as La Llorona.

La Llorona: A Love Story performances are FREE for WNCC students and faculty and $5 for the community. Tickets can be purchased in the WNCC business office Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m. or at the WNCC Little Theatre box office one hour prior to the performance.
