Western Nebraska Community College today announced that it has received a $250,000
gift from Platte Valley Companies. As part of the WNCC Works: Expanding the Possibilities
campaign, the gift will support the upcoming renovation of the WNCC Scottsbluff Campus
Performing Arts facility, to be named the Platte Valley Companies Performing Arts
Center. The gift will also fund workforce development in the panhandle, and help additional
student success through scholarships and updated facilities.
"We are proud to support WNCC through this gift," President and CEO of Platte Valley
Companies Hod Kosman stated. "WNCC is essential to the growth and prosperity of our
region. They positively touch so many lives in such a wide variety of ways: education,
art, healthcare, sports, workforce training, and the list goes on. WNCC is a dynamic
and forward thinking institution evident by this visionary expansion campaign, and
Platte Valley Companies is pleased to invest in their future. We are also honored
to have the Platte Valley Companies Performing Art Center named for our company; the
renovated facility will be an incredible addition to WNCC and will allow the community
to have continued opportunities to experience the performing arts right here."
Platte Valley Companies is a Financial Services Company that operates in Nebraska,
Wyoming, and Colorado. PVC has 20 locations across the three states it serves. Platte
Valley Companies was founded in 1996 and is headquartered in Scottsbluff, Neb. Platte
Valley Companies currently employs 44 WNCC alumni.
The donation came in the midst of the fundraising campaign for the college, which
will extend through the fall of 2016. This year also marks the landmark 90th anniversary of Western Nebraska Community College. The campaign has raised $7,900,000
so far, about 90% of its goal. WNCC joins many community colleges that have launched
campaigns to raise private donations and individual giving.
"This generous donation will be directly invested in our students through improved
facilities and programs," said WNCC President Todd Holcomb. "From updating and expanding
the theater space, to creating state-of-the-art practice and classroom spaces for
our vocal music and instrumental music programs; this gift will make an enormous impact
on our goal of a successful future for WNCC students."
