The Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) program at Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) received notification from the United States Department of Education, informing the program it was successful in its grant application.
All Veterans Upward Bound grants are funded in five-year award cycles. The WNCC VUB program will continue to be funded until August 2022, and signals a sustained belief in the program's objectives, outcomes, and stakeholders who continue to work to grow the program to new levels.
Established nationally in the 1970's, Veterans Upward Bound is an essential college preparatory program available locally to western Nebraska and western South Dakota veterans. The program provides assessment and enhancement of basic skills through counseling, mentoring, tutoring, and academic instruction in the core subject areas. The primary goal of the program is to increase the rate at which participants enroll in and complete postsecondary education programs.
"We are grateful for the collaborative efforts of the Veterans Upward Bound team, Western Nebraska Community College, our regional representation (Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska), and our Congressional Delegation for all of the support throughout the grant application process," said Norman Coley, TRIO Programs Director.
