The Western Nebraska Community College SummerFree Scholarship, which allows current
and returning students to take up to two WNCC courses for free, is back and available
online at wncc.edu/summerfree.
For Michayla Prante, the SummerFree Scholarship meant she wouldn't be a year behind
and on a student loan schedule.
"The SummerFree Scholarship allowed me to go directly from the LPN program to the
ADN program without having to take that extra year off and having to take out student
loans just to finish up those prerequisite classes," Prante said.
Prante is just one of 640 students that have taken advantage of the scholarship, which
has been administered by WNCC since 2016. All current full- and part-time WNCC students are eligible to apply, as are previous
WNCC students who did not graduate. CollegeNOW! dual-credit high school students are
also eligible to receive the scholarship.
Applicants must hold at least a 2.0 G.P.A from WNCC, and be seeking a degree, diploma,
or certificate. The scholarship covers no more than two courses with a maximum of
eight credit hours of tuition and fees, plus $200 for textbooks. An application can
be found at wncc.edu/summerfree.
The deadline to submit an application to receive the scholarship is Friday, May 3.
"The SummerFree Scholarship definitely helped me out," Prante said. "I highly recommend
the scholarship to anyone that qualifies."
