The Western Nebraska Community College Performing Arts season continues with six more
performances throughout the spring semester.
On March 1-3, WNCC's Theatre Arts program will present "Fuddy Meers" by David Lindsay-Abaire
to kick off the Spring Performing Arts Season. The play, directed by WNCC Theatre
Arts Instructor Robert Thompson, Jr., tells the story of an amnesiac, Claire, who
awakens each morning as a blank slate on which her husband and daughter must piece
together the facts of her life. "Fuddy Meers" will be performed in the John. N Harms
Center lower bay area at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets can be purchased in advance beginning February 1 or at the door one hour prior
to curtain. Viewer discretion is advised, as adult themes and language are used.
The 29th Annual Gala Evening, which features the WNCC Vocal Music program, will then
be held on March 29 and 30 at the Gering Civic Center. The 2019 Gala Evening, under
the direction of Choral Activities Director Dr. Patrick Newell, will focus on the
theme 'Fairy Tales Do Come True.' Though a variety of Disney favorites will be performed,
Newell also found inspiration in Musical Theatre, Opera, and folk songs. A social
will begin at 6 p.m. each evening with dinner and the performance set to start at
6:30 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase from March 1 until March 28 at noon.
Theatre Arts performs again on April 12-14 with the production "The Shape of Things."
The play, written by Neil LaBute, will be directed by Theatre Arts major Dani Lopez.
In the show a nerdy English Literature major, Adam, is approached by an attractive
graduate art student, Evelyn. Over time Evelyn encourages Adam to transform his appearance.
Through time, the changes become more drastic as the influence Evelyn has on Adam
becomes serious. "The Shape of Things" is presented at 7:30 p.m. April 12 and 13,
and at 2 p.m. April 14 in the John N. Harms Center lower bay area. Tickets are available
at the door one hour prior to curtain.
On April 28, the Instrumental Music program will take the stage for its annual Spring
Band Concert: European Treasures. WNCC Instrumental Activities Director Dr. Nathaniel Johnson will lead Western Nebraska Winds -- a group comprised of WNCC
students and community musicians -- in a free concert with a European flair. Additionally,
the spring concert will feature flute soloist Norman Gonzales. The performance will
begin at 3 p.m. at the Midwest Theater in Scottsbluff
A group of advanced instrumental and vocal music students will perform in an honor's
recital on May 4 at 3 p.m. The free event will be held at the First Presbyterian Church
in Scottsbluff and will feature some of the top WNCC performing arts students.
Finally, Jump, Jive & Swing returns to the community on May 5 at 6 p.m. at Hampton
Inn & Suites Conference Center in Scottsbluff. The annual event showcases a trio of
instrumental groups at WNCC, including Cougar Rock, Fire in the Pan Swingers, and
the WNCC Jazz Combo. Tickets, which include a dinner, can be purchased beginning April
5 until May 1. Live music and cocktails will begin at 5:15 p.m.
