In January, the five Nebraska Community College Association (NCCA) member colleges and the two Nebraska Tribal Colleges, agreed to principles and standards for dual and concurrent enrollment credit. This is the first time a formal agreement for dual and concurrent enrollment has been made between institutions of higher education in the state of Nebraska.
Those seven institutions -- Central Community College, Mid-Plains Community College,
Northeast Community College, Southeast Community College, Western Nebraska Community
College, Nebraska Indian Community College, and Little Priest Tribal College -- agreed
to five basic principles that address college standards and rigor, awarding of credit,
instructor qualifications, consistency in delivery, and assessment and evaluation.
Dual and concurrent enrollment credit gives current high school students an opportunity
to complete college coursework while also fulfilling high school graduation requirements.
Early college experiences also promote more focused career decisions by high school
students prior to entering college. Thousands of Nebraska high school students are
currently participating in these opportunities, saving families and taxpayers thousands
of dollars.
