Flip through the pages of a storybook with Western Nebraska Community College's 29th Annual Gala 'Fairy Tales Do Come True.
The 29th Annual Gala, featuring the WNCC Vocal Music program, will be held March 29 and 30
at the Gering Civic Center. Performances and dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. each evening
with doors opening for social hour at 6 p.m.
Tickets, which are $30 and includes dinner, must be purchased in advance through the
WNCC Foundation.
"This is an opportunity to really let your mind dream," said WNCC Vocal Music Instructor
Dr. Patrick Newell. "The mythical theme gives us the freedom to cover a variety of
selections from different eras. The students have done a fantastic job of bringing
each piece to life, telling a different story with each song."
Fittingly, patrons can expect plenty of Disney favorites - covering both good and
evil -- throughout the 'Fairy Tales Do Come True' Gala, including songs from "The
Lion King," "Tangled," "Enchanted," and older Disney favorites.
However, Newell also found inspiration from Musical Theatre and Classical songs. Specifically,
the WNCC choir will be performing pieces such as "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" from The Beatles,
which describes the whimsical turns of life. Traditional selections include the 400-year-old
madrigal "fa una canzona" and an original song for women's chorus titled, "Let Me
In."
Tickets are on sale now and must be purchased before March 28 by calling the WNCC
Foundation at 308-630-6550 or by visiting wncc.edu/performingarts. Tickets can also be purchased in person at the John N. Harms Center on the WNCC
Scottsbluff Campus.
