WCCA Board of Governors welcomes 2 new board members

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. - The Western Community College Area (WCCA) Board of Governors is pleased to announce that the District 1 and District 3 vacancies have been filled.

Marjorie Schmidt of Gordon, accepted the vacancy in District 1, replacing Kim Marcy who resigned in July. Misty Curtis, of Hemingford will fill the District 3 vacancy, replacing Richard Stickney, who resigned in July. The pair were formally introduced and began their tenure at the September WCCA board meeting.

“We are pleased to welcome Marjorie and Misty to our board,” said Lynne Klemke, WCCA board chair. “They come to us with backgrounds in ag, healthcare, and education, and we welcome their voice and perspectives.”

Schmidt is a semi-retired medical professional who plays an active role in a large farm & ranch operation near Gordon. Schmidt served in leadership roles at Gordon Memorial Hospital, Pine Ridge IHS Hospital, and is currently the primary care locum tenens for Wapiti Medical Group.

Misty Curtis is the principal of Hemingford High School. Prior to that, she was principal of Gordon-Rushville Middle School. She also has teaching experience dating back to 2006 at Bayard Public Schools, Gering Public Schools, and Laramie County School District No. 2 (Pine Bluffs, Wyoming).

District 1 encompasses Dawes, Grant, and Sheridan counties, and a portion of Cherry County. District 3 includes Box Butte County and portions of Morrill and Scotts Bluff counties.
